Just sitting here thinking of you tonight nana, miss you lots and wish I would have spent more time with you this past year that I have not been working. My heart is heavy today.

We are so sad to lose this little Texas girl who created a good life and family in Canada. She was such a good niece to Aunt Sis and a good cousin to us.

I always enjoyed visiting with Joyce when she brought the donations of quilts from the Quilt Group. She was a lovely lady. She told me when she and her husband were younger in the oil business she and her husband were friends with my Uncle Jack and Aunt Hazel McRae. She will be missed.

Growing up in Wetaskiwin allowed me to see Mrs. Blackwell from time to time. I knew her from when I was a youth, so that is how I respectfully referred to her. In the last twelve years though I got to know her as Joyce, a valuable founding member of our quilt group. She in fact introduced me to the group after a phone call to her. We had the chance a few years later, to go on a day trip together on behalf of our group to the Edmonton Garrison. It was a great day. We had a nice lunch out, and a good visit. I remember that she had said I was very good driver but that I sure took a long time to get there. We laughed about that. I did drive a bit slower that day. I will always remember her zest for life, her beauty both inward and outward, her caring nature, her wisdom about life and quilting. I too will miss her. My sympathy goes out to all of her family.

I was very blessed to have Joyce as my cousin. Starting when I was a child, I admired her, wanted to be like her and loved her. She will always be that way for me -- perfect and beautiful. I felt honored when I got to be with her. We had a long conversation last Christmas and it makes me happy to think of it. She was always very special and important to me. No-one will ever replace her. I loved her forever and will miss her more than I can say.
