It is with great sadness that on February 6, 2016 Helen Murphy passed away, peacefully at home with loved ones around her, at the age of 81 years.
Helen was born in Athabasca, Alberta on September 20, 1934 and was later adopted by Fred and Ida Winter of Millet. On October 4, 1952, Helen married Clayton Murphy and they have resided in Wetaskiwin ever since.
In the early years, prior to her marriage, Helen worked as a telephone operator in Millet. After marrying Clayton and moving to Wetaskiwin, Helen switched careers and worked in retail for 30 years. In her retirement, she volunteered at the Wetaskiwin Hospital gift shop.
Helen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved people, and always made sure company had a home cooked meal or some of her amazing baked goods. She had a beautiful, warm and caring heart. Helen loved gardening and developed a love for making crafts to share with her loved ones.
Helen is dearly loved and will never be forgotten by her loving family; husband of 64 years, Clayton; son, Wayne (Joann) Murphy and grandchildren, Sean (Natalie) and Liam Murphy; daughter, Alana (Wilf) Schatschneider and grandchildren, Teneal (Ryan) and Tyson (Jillian) Schatschneider; daughter, Pam (Dan) Maygard, grandchildren, Jenelle (Kevin) Adams, Corey Maygard, Kyla (David) Main and great-grandchildren, Isabel and Brody Adams; biological siblings, Mary Niewchas, Kay (Wally) Kruse, Sig (Lorna) Baustad and Joan Fowler; sister-in-law, Patricia (Joe) Lewis and nephews, Ryan (Kristin), Curtis (Holly) and Aaron (Julie) Winter.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Ida Winter; brother, Harold Winter and biological siblings, Carl Chudek, Paul Chudek, John Chudek, Anne Kuzyk, Adele Kurach, George Chudek and Roy Chudek.
A service in honour of Helen and to celebrate her life will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church, 4218-56 Avenue, Wetaskiwin on Friday, February 19, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.
In Helen’s memory, donations are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Diabetes Foundation or the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
