Willard Ivan Demoline of Falun, Alberta passed peacefully on the morning of Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the age of 83, with his loving wife of 63 years, Sylvia (Frandsen) Demoline by his side. He is survived by their three children: Terry Demoline of Wetaskiwin, AB, Margaret Kennedy of Spruce Grove, AB, Lloyd Demoline (Nancy) of Edmonton, AB, and was predeceased by his son Lyle Demoline. Willard loved family, and a shining light in his life were his 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Willard was born Christmas Day in Swan River, MB where he was raised one of five siblings. He met Sylvia in Red Deer, AB and they were married October 15, 1960. He lived and worked in a few central Alberta communities, but it was during their time in Weyburn, SK that Willard became enamoured with the horse racing industry. Owning, training and driving standardbred horses became his passion. In 1975 the family bought and settled on a farm in the Usona district (previously Sylvia’s grandparent’s homestead). There they raised race horses until the mid ’90’s.
Upon retirement Willard could spend more time doing the things he loved… travelling, golfing, and visiting. He was a man of true entrepreneurial spirit and many ideas, which he enthusiastically passed on to his family and friends. He will be lovingly remembered by these conversations, his particular sense of humour, and the love he had for his family.
The family will be holding a small private service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Willard’s memory to ‘STARS’ are gratefully appreciated.
