Wendy Frances Elofson passed away on March 2, 2026 in Ponoka, Alberta at the age of 78 years, after a long illness. Wendy grew up in Edmonton, where she studied Education at the University of Alberta and Piano through the University of Toronto Royal Conservatory of Music. She married her high school sweetheart, Robin Elofson, in 1968 and moved to Ponoka shortly after, where they farmed for many years. A true “Renaissance woman”, Wendy was a gifted pianist, a passionate gardener, a creative artist, a seamstress, and a pilot. She loved animals of all types and took in everything from orphaned calves to baby ducks and injured dogs and cats throughout the years. Wendy also supported many more animals through her contributions to the Alberta SPCA and various humane societies. Wendy was a natural teacher throughout her life, teaching professionally in Edmonton and Ponoka and also teaching her children and grandchildren gardening, baking, drawing, music, and how to be good people. Wendy had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to share stories with all of those closest to her. Wendy will be greatly missed by her husband of 58 years, Robin; her children and their spouses, Jon Elofson and Dawn Elofson of Leduc and Cydney Elofson and Bob Fink of Calgary; her adoring granddaughters, Amelia, Annika, Gillian, and Ricki; her sisters Sheila Cline of Edmonton and Marilyn Rife of Smoky Lake; and her cats Whitefoot and Mittens. A celebration of Wendy’s life will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ponoka Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wendy’s name to the Saving Grace Animal Rescue in Alix, Alberta (www.savinggracecanada.com).
