Wendalyne Hellen (Johnson) Humphreys passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Lacombe Hospital on November 6, 2025, at the age of 76 years.
Wendy was born on June 2, 1949, to Reginald and Norrean Johnson. Wendy was the first born of 3 children and together they grew up in Ponoka. In her childhood years she had a love for horses and enjoyed riding with her three good friends, Marvilyne, Joy and Sharalyn. While growing up, several times, she road her horse in the Ponoka Stampede Parade in the Glamour Category which she enjoyed very much. She was very active in the United Church choir, enjoyed singing and won awards in many singing events. Along with the church choir mom was active in the CGIT program through Ponoka United Church.
She began dating Darrel, the love of her life, in Grade 9. They married February 22, 1969, in Ponoka, and resided in Red Deer while Wendy continued to take her CNA in Edmonton at the U of A hospital. Their first child Darrnelle came into the world in 1969 in Red Deer. In 1970 Darrel and Wendy moved back to Ponoka where Wendy would begin her Career at the Ponoka General Hospital which spanned for 8 yrs and saw the birth of her youngest child Sheldon in 1972.
In 1980, Wendy began working in the Ponoka school system as a TA to special needs children. This brought her great joy and created many friendships and memories for which she cherished for the rest of her life.
In 1992, Darrel and Wendy moved to Grande Prairie where she continued to work with special needs children within the Grande Prairie School District.
In 1994, Darrel and Wendy moved to Lacombe, where she actively participated in her Grandchildren’s lives, schooling, and activities. Wendy loved her family very much and was always there to give a helping hand, or whatever she could do to help. She also loved gardening and planting flowers all around her yard as well as being a member of the Lacombe Gardening Club.
After Darrel’s retirement from Encana, they began some adventures where they travelled to Mexico, Yuma, across Canada, and the northern USA as well as a road trip to Alaska. They liked to go camping with the family and friends as well.
