It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Michael Orom on February 26, 2023. Wayne was an uncle, brother, and friend to many. Born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta on October 19, 1945, Wayne lived on the family farm for the majority of his life before moving to the Bashaw Lodge in his later years and then ending his journey on the Horizon unit at the Alberta Hospital (Centennial Centre), Ponoka.
Wayne was an absolute character who enjoyed the company of his family and friends more than anything. He spent his days on the farm riding his bike and quad, doing his chores and visiting with neighbors. There are not many people in our rural community that didn’t know Wayne and his love for desserts and endless questions. Wayne was an extremely hard worker and strong man who enjoyed wrestling with his brothers and nephews; never to lose. Whenever there was help needed Wayne was there to lend a hand.
Wayne is survived by his siblings Dennis Orom, Patsy (Peter) Osinchuk, Diane (Lynden) Vold, and Doug Orom (Tina Matheson); as well as a very large number of nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his parents Louis and Liz Orom, brother Allan Orom, and sisters- in-law Chris Orom and Judy Orom.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ponoka Funeral Home followed by a lunch and fellowship at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church (adjacent to the Ponoka Funeral Home). Please feel free to wear your Cowboys Hats and Snap Button Shirts as they were Wayne’s absolute favorite.
Memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the Canadian Mental Health Association - Alberta Division.
