It is with heavy hearts that the Abt, Potts, and related families announce the passing of Wayne Martin Abt, born January 18th, 1962, in Ponoka, Alberta to Beverly and Lewis Abt. He grew up on the former Abt Cattle Co. farm, where he developed his unwavering love for driving and sweeping landscapes. He was an all-star athlete, effortlessly a top competitor in the many sports he devoted himself to but especially hockey, a deep-seeded love that he maintained until his final days.
Wayne was, first and foremost, a father. He was known around town by many to always be with his kids. His children relied on him for many things and in many ways, to which he had always showed up in whatever ways he could even if it had extended far beyond his reach. He was also a well-loved and widely-known bus driver in these communities for around 20 years, though, he didn't stop in just these roles – he was a hockey coach, a mentor, and a jack-of-all-trades. His talent, charm, and intelligence shined through in all that he did.
He leaves behind a large, dynamic, and endlessly loving community of many children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; siblings, and friends from all around the local area, most predominantly in Ponoka and Maskwacis but also far beyond them in both time and distance.
He will be sorely missed.
