Verle House Obituary

Verle Letta House (nee Becker) was born April 11, 1955 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan to Jonathan and Irma Becker. In 1957, Jon and Irma moved their family - Cynthia,  Verle and Bevan - to the Wetaskiwin area. They lived with Irma’s sister and her husband (Alma and Herb Dargatz) on a farm while Jon was looking for work. They later moved into the city of Wetaskiwin where sisters Candice and Suedelle were added to the family. They began attending the Wetaskiwin Mission Church shortly after moving and immediately felt at home. Verle, along with her siblings, enjoyed Sunday School, youth group and established many lifelong friendships there.
She attended King Edward elementary and Queen Elizabeth junior high schools  and was always one of the top students. Her interest in secretarial work developed when she attended the Wetaskiwin Composite High School.
Verle graduated in 1973 and moved into Edmonton where she had a successful career as a secretary at the AGT tower. She met and married Gerald House in 1981. They had three sons and one daughter; Nathan, Matthew, Jason, and Miranda. In 1991, Verle and her children moved to Wetaskiwin where a special bond with the  kids was built between Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Bevan.
Verle was very skilled in cake decorating, sewing, crafting, porcelain doll making,  and decorating in general. Verle enjoyed many hobbies and especially puzzles. She also became an avid Oilers fan. She loved anything Disney and enjoyed some special trips to Disneyland. Being the same age as Disneyland itself, she was able to celebrate her 60th birthday alongside Mickey Mouse at the parks Diamond Anniversary.
Verle was very involved in many behind the scenes ministries in the church, across  all ages; from babies to seniors. “Auntie Verle” spent every summer in the Craft Shack at Faith Bible Camp faithfully sharing her skills and talents with campers and  staff alike.
One of Verle’s greatest passions was to fill shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child along with her brother and mom. A highlight was their Costa Rica trip to help distribute shoe boxes.
Family was extremely important to Verle and she rarely missed family events. She was the driving force behind family reunions.
Verle loved her children more than anything. She was extremely close to her daughter, Miranda, and was devastated after her passing. Her sons were of great comfort and support to her during that difficult time. They have remained faithful, loving, and supportive of their mom throughout her latest challenges battling anaplastic thyroid cancer.  Verle’s life journey had many peaks and valleys but her strong faith carried her through. She rejoiced in the good times as well as the bad. On September 27, just after midnight, Verle peacefully traded her bed at home for mansions in Glory.
She is survived by her children, Nathan (Tania) House, Matthew (Claire) Becker,  Jason (Kelsey) Becker, Mike (Rachel) Zajac; grandchildren, Keegan, Charity, Keyra,  Madison, Ava, Eberle, Jean, Caleb, Grace, and Eden; mother, Irma Becker; siblings, Cynthia (Kirk) Whiteford, Bevan Becker, Candice (Doug) Leschert, Suedelle (Dave) Baudais; nieces and nephews, Kristi Whiteford, Ryan (Shannon) Whiteford, Jeremy (Sabrina) Whiteford, Chantel Whiteford, Colin (Erin) Leschert, Jennifer (Koby) Myers, Bryce (Hayley) Leschert, Sheldon (Destynn) Leschert, Shawn (Elizabeth) Baudais, Brett (Dani) Baudais, Darcey Baudais.
Verle was predeceased by her father, Jonathan Becker; and daughter, Miranda  Zajac
