Tillie Chapman Obituary

April 19, 1922-March 13, 2026

Tillie Chapman passed away in Wetaskiwin, Alberta on March 13, 2026 at the age of 103 years.

She is survived by her loving family, son, George (Nancy); grandson, Ross (Sue) Wannamaker; great-granddaughter, Aaron (Steve) Gala; great-great-granddaughter, Parker; great-granddaughter, Alexandrea (Krassin) Antov; great-great-granddaughter, Ivamira; son, Randy (Max); grandson, Dean (Kara); great-grandchildren, Amelia, Henry, Ripley and Emily; son, Bruce (Rose); granddaughter, Ebony (Marcel) Matter; great-grandchildren, Emerson and Mira; granddaughter, Amber (Aaron) Brandt; great-grandchildren, Ayla and Annika; her nephew, Bill (Elaine) McAllister; great-nephew, John James (Carleigh); great-great-nephew, Mason; great-niece, Lisa; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Tillie was predeceased by her husband, Jim Chapman; parents, Gottlieb and Ernestine Knopp; her siblings, William (at seven months), Hattie Olsen, Jerry Knopp, Erwin Knopp as well as twins, Elizabeth McAllister and Bert Knopp.

“I was baptized and confirmed in St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Hay Lakes but transferred to First United Church as Jim wouldn’t marry me in a German Lutheran Church. We were blessed with three sons, George James, Walter John Randell and Bruce Allen. My baby sister Elizabeth died at the age of 28 and had three children who came and lived with us for 3.5 years. After their father remarried, my nephew, Bill came back and joined our family. They all married local girls whom I love very much and I was blessed with four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Sometimes we hit a snag or two when business was slow as Jim and his brother Walter carried on Chapman Electric. But, we all survived the Dirty 30's and the Second World War. In 1991, my Jim passed away from cancer. All of my siblings died before me. Why God saved me for the last, as I was the oldest, I won’t ask, but God is good -All The Time- God is Good. Always remember that and I love you all.”

Special 'Thank you' to Unit 33 at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and all of the staff at Good Shepherd Home for the loving care Tillie received . Another 'Thank You' to Wendy Taylor and Deb Lentz for their faithful visits.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at the Wetaskiwin United Church.
