Thomas "Bill" William Lucas

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Thomas William "Bill" Lucas at his home on January 1, 2021.

Bill was born on January 21, 1938 in Ponoka, Alberta. He passed away just weeks before his 83rd birthday. He was the third child born to Howard and Esther Lucas. Bill lived his entire life in the Ponoka area and married his life-long sweetheart, Margaret (Peggy) Krefting on August 22, 1959. Together Bill and Peggy had three children: Brian, Linda and David.

He spent much of his work life as a professional owner/operator, first with a taxi business and then creating his busing company, Lucas Bus Lines. Bill officially retired in 2015 after suffering from a stroke.

He is fondly remembered as taking tremendous pride in his vehicles and his business. Bill ran his company as a true family business often employing family members and friends throughout the years. When he wasn’t tinkering in the yard or garage, you would often find Bill in the great outdoors enjoying nature walks, camping and fishing. Bill always had a soft spot for dogs and ensured man’s best-friend was always a little spoiled (in a good way!).

After spending their early years living in Riverside (Ponoka), Bill and Peggy moved out to an acreage east of town near Chain Lakes, moving a few more times before finally settling down in Lucas Heights (Ponoka).

Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy; his daughter Linda (Gord) Weir and their children Kelcie (Ray) Smith, Jordyn (Justin) Nally, Kenzie (Alex Amies) Weir; his son Dave (Deb Leimert-Lucas) and his children Matt Lucas, Justin (Ashlee) Lucas and their child Emberly, Connor Lucas, Allison Lucas, step-son Brandon Gauthier; his sisters Shirley Hummelle and Norma Lloyd. Bill is predeceased by both his parents and by his son Brian.

The family is thankful for the care provided to Bill by Ponoka Home Care staff in his palliative condition. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s name are gratefully accepted to Heart and Stroke Foundation – Alberta and Northwest Territories, 100-119 14 Street NW Calgary, Alberta T2N 1Z6.
