Shirley Kohlman passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the age of 85 years, at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre after a lengthy stay. Shirley was born in 1940 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan to parents Ignatius and Ella Scheidl. After high school, she entered nursing training at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, graduating in 1961. She married Nick Kohlman that same year. She worked as a registered nurse at the Misericordia, Camrose, Wetaskiwin and Ponoka Hospitals, as well as being a home care nurse with the Wetoka Health Unit for many years. Shirley loved spending time with family and gardening, especially flowers. She was active with the CWL and spent several years on the decorating committee at the Catholic Church in Ponoka. She was genuinely interested in people and made friends wherever she went.
Shirley is survived, and lovingly missed, by her husband Nick; two children Michael and Kathleen; as well as her son-in-law Bruce King; her granddaughters Sarah and Jessica; and by her newly born great-granddaughter Skylar.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at St. Augustine Catholic Parish, Ponoka.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the St Augustine Catholic Parish Building Fund.
