Sharon V. Bird
December 30, 1965 - October 21, 2025
Sharon Bird, aged 59, passed away October 21, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis and Polycystic Kidney Disease.
Born on December 30, 1965, in Arcola, Saskatchewan, the youngest of 5 children, Sharon spent her childhood growing up in Carlyle before moving to Alberta with her young family. In her youth, Sharon enjoyed many different activities, including running, swimming, curling, and golf, and passed that love of sport onto her daughters, whom she coached through many seasons of ringette. Sharon was a hairstylist until she was diagnosed with MS, after which time she obtained her business diploma and worked as a bookkeeper.
Her family and friends will remember her large personality, loud laugh, quick wit, and bravery in the face of adversity. Sharon faced life’s challenges with unwavering strength and determination. She possessed such a loving and generous spirit, and would do anything for those dear to her.
She will be forever cherished and lovingly remembered by her children, Stephanie McCarty (Lee), Samantha Richardson (Mikhail), and Scott Eklund (Kimberley); grandchildren, Matias and Taylee McCarty, Ainsley and Cohen Richardson, and Liam Eklund and her siblings, Deborah Lothian (and daughter Kim Lothian) who were a constant source of love and support throughout Sharon’s journey; Garth (Heidi) Bird and Heather (Gary) McConnell. She will also be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Irene Bird, her brother, Barry Bird, and brother-in-law, Ralph Lothian.
A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held in the spring in Carlyle, Saskatchewan.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation - Long Term Care, where Sharon was graciously cared for by the amazing staff for 8 years.
