Ruth Ellen Gibson
1969 - 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce that Ruth passed away peacefully, early Friday morning, June 12, 2026 at Sagebrush in Wetaskiwin, at the age of 56 years.
Ruth Ellen Gibson was born September 5th, 1969 in Grand Forks BC at the Boundary Hospital. She was the middle child of three girls to Margaret and David Gibson. The family moved to Holden, AB to take over the farm in 1980. She went to Holden School and graduated from Ryley High in 1987. She chose to become a legal secretary and attended Lakeland College for their 1 year certificate program. She started working for Andreassen Olson not long before a life changing motor vehicle accident left her with a disability in 1988.
She married in 1995 and along came her children Jasmyn, Jared and Joel. Ruth enjoyed farm life: gardening, picking dandelions, bidding on animals at auctions, touring people around in the golf cart with her dog Gina, serving coffee, playing cards. She loved good ol' country and rock music, laughing with friends and family, and her Faith brought her through many difficult situations.
When she moved to town, she found freedom with her motorized chair. She loved to shop and support local businesses, her favourite being thrift shops.
Though Ruth had her challenges, she was a very bright light in the world and impacted everyone she met. She would go out of her way to talk to anyone, even strangers and share her story. She would surprise people with her great sense of humour and lived for a good laugh.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Jasmyn (Dilan), Jared, and Joel; granddaughter, Apryl; mother, Margaret; sisters, Lana and Kathy (Shaune) as well as her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, David Gibson and her grandparents, Adrian and Helen Molhoek.
The celebration of life will be held Saturday June 20, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holden Hall.
Memorial Donations may be made to Vang Lutheran Church or a charity of one's choice.
