Robert Guy Luce

Robert passed away at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre with his dear wife by his side. He spent almost his entire life exactly where he wanted to be - on the land that his family has farmed for over a century Robert spent long hours working on the farm raising crops, hay and cattle but his favorite times were when his family and friends were gathered around.

Robert was born on the farm north of Crestomere, Alberta to Rowe and Vantie Luce.  He grew up working alongside his dad and brothers, Harold and Walter.  From 1945 to 1947 he attended and graduated from the Olds School of Agriculture. He married Donna Olson on March 28th, 1959 in Camrose, Alberta and they worked hard together to make a life for themselves on the farm where Robert was born. 

Church and community service were very important to Robert and Donna and he was honored to have received a Community Ambassador Award from the WPCA and UFA. In 2001 he was inducted into the Olds College Alumni Association Hall of Fame after having served for many years as a board member and president.  We celebrated the Farm’s Centennial on August 28, 2019 while he was still living there and it meant a lot to him that he was on hand to share and explain the many tools and farm artifacts which were displayed. He also hosted many visitors to his abundant tomato and cucumber greenhouse and loved being able to share the bounty.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Donna; their daughter Janet; son Brian (Gail) and their children Thomas, David (Emma) and great-granddaughter Miriam, Rachel, and Matthew; daughter Cheryl McLeod (Shawn), Dexter (Kelsey), and Ben; as well as his brother Walter (Truda). Robert was predeceased by his parents, his brother Harold in 2000 and his great grandson Aaron in 2019. 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 13th at 2:30 p.m. at the Rimbey Christian Reformed Church (5501 - 51 Ave, Rimbey, Alberta). Lunch will be served following the service. A live stream will be available via YouTube search ‘Rimbey CRC Live Stream’.
