Robert Lorenz Henke, affectionately known as Bob by his family and friends, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2024, in Didsbury, Alberta, at the age of 81. Bob was born on June 2, 1943, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Bob went to school in Chilliwack, BC from 1948 to 1954, then moved to Alberta and went to Twin Creek School for 2 years until the Falun School was built. He attended Falun School from 1957 to 1959. After leaving school, Bob worked as a farm hand, travelled Alberta building grain elevators and worked for a hog farm at Acme, Alberta. A few years later he was the town foreman for Acme. In 1995 he moved to South Carolina and worked for New Forest Technology Inc. planting trees in South and North Carolina as well as Virginia.
Bob was a man whose laughter was contagious and whose hands were never idle. His innate ability to fix anything that was broken earned him the reputation of being a handyman. Bob’s sense of humor was one of his most cherished attributes, providing laughter to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Bob is lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters, Irene Hagel, brother-in-law Dwayne Hennig, Ken (Bev) Hill, Doug (Alberta) Hill, Lillian (Brian) Poole, and Bonnie (Peter) Bukkems, all who reside in or near Wetaskiwin. His memory is also cherished by his numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Oscar and Ruth Hill, his sister Hazel Hennig, and his brother-in-law Jerome Hagel.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery. A Luncheon will follow at the Wetaskiwin Seniors Centre.
