Rob Hartnell Obituary

In Loving Memory of Rob Hartnell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rob Hartnell, a wonderful husband, father, son, brother and friend to many.
Rob was born at Rocky Mountain House on November 18, 1972.  He died peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose, Alberta on Friday, March 12, 2021 with his wife and father at his side.
For all those who knew Rob, it goes without saying that next to his family, his primary passion was hockey.  He played Junior hockey for the Hobbema Hawks and Lethbridge Hurricanes.  He then moved on to the Minor pro’s with a team in the ECHL and WPHL with a stop in Scotland and Italy.
After moving back to Wetaskiwin, he joined the Bentley Generals where they won the Allan Cup.
Rob loved working with young athletes and sharing his passion for fitness and working out.  He coached the Wetaskiwin Icemen for five years, leading them to two league championships.  Rob enjoyed other sports as well such as hunting and fishing.
Rob was predeceased by his mother, Marilyn Hartnell; mother and father in-law, Evelyn and Thomas Stangowitz.
He leaves to mourn, his devoted wife and care-giver, Rachel; his son and sidekick, Bobby; daughters, Rayvin and Keely; father, Bob; brother, Corey; nephew, Cayden; nieces, Mya and Adrianna as well as teammates, co-workers at Adams Chevrolet GMC Buick and friends known to him far and wide.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all those who reached out to Rob during his illness; we want you to know that your thoughts, prayers, kindness and compassion meant a lot to Rob.  We would also like to thank Dr. Letley and the amazing staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose for all of their care and compassion.
Cremation has taken place.  Due to the restrictions placed by Alberta Health during the Covid pandemic, a celebration of Rob’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of floral tributes an education trust fund for Bobby has been created.  Cheques payable to “Bobby Hartnell” may be mailed to: Rachel Hartnell, PO Box 7042 Stn Main, Wetaskiwin, Alberta T9A 2Y9.
