Richard Glenn Davidson passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on May 18th, 2026, in Wetaskiwin AB. at the age of 78.
Rick is survived by his two sons, Robert Christian Davidson, and Troy (Julie) Darren Davidson; his sisters, Donna May Fediuk & family, Sheila Jean Johnson & family, Wendy (Greg) Lynn Knoblauch & family; and his beautiful grandchildren, Ashleigh Patricia Davidson, Jessica Brook Davidson, April (Tristen) Marie-Colleen Klippert, Angel Anne-Christine Davidson, & Jace Robert-George Davidson.
Rick was predeceased by his father, Robert William Davidson of Calgary AB; his mother, Cynthia May Walder of Lindfield, Sussex, England; and his brother, Alan Barry Davidson of Olds AB.
Rick was born in Olds AB. on April 27, 1948. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Olds. After high school, Rick left the farm to pursue work on the drilling rigs and eventually transitioned into scouting. Through his work he fostered very strong friendships that would last a lifetime. As an oilfield scout this line of work was made for him with his love of the outdoors and adventure. This lifestyle is what brought many of those tight connections and friendships together like family.
Rick would find love and marry high school sweetheart (one of his sisters’ friends) Julie Christine Neilson and started his own family with the birth of his sons Robert (Who is most referred to as Chris) in 1972 & Troy followed just two short years later in1974.
Rick always made sure to include as many friends and family as he could in his adventurous lifestyle, making lasting memories and some amazing stories to be shared and cherished forever.
As the scouting came to an end Rick repositioned himself into carpentry which he picked up with ease and soon mastered. He absolutely loved working with his hands and his tools to complete perfect projects, and for Rick it had to be perfect! His love for his craft spilled over to so many as he was always eager and more than willing to step up and help someone in need and when he did you just knew you were in good hands.
Everywhere Rick travelled his sincerity and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone continued to build and expand on strong lasting friendships. One of his closest friends explained that most people view things from the outside and start looking inwards, whereas Rick had the ability to see things from the inside and to start looking outwards. He was a man of his word and when he wanted to tell you something he would just tell you, he wasn’t one to mince words. Rick was a father to more than just his sons, he was a friend, he was an inspiration and a pillar to many, especially his nieces and nephews and their families which he loved and respected immensely.
Rick was loved and will continue to be loved and missed by all those who knew him and never forgotten as he left enough memories and stories for his legacy to last generations.
We will be holding a celebration of life for Rick at his home in Wetaskiwin on June 6th, 2026, starting at 1:00pm and carrying on to as late as you wish to stay. We invite all friends and family to come and join in sharing memories and stories amongst one another for a time of remembrance and joy in his wonderful life.
We would like this to be a potluck style celebration and ask if you are able to, to bring an item of your own choosing to enjoy and share with others.
If you can, we encourage you to bring your own chair as on-site seating is limited.
For those travelling from abroad, accommodation can be sought in Wetaskiwin, Camrose or Leduc. All are a short travel to Ricks home.
We also have limited on-site availability for RV’s as well as some local campsites near by for those who wish to bring their own accommodations.
