It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, and brother, Richard Louis Ogilvie, on September 23, 2021 at 70 years old after a long battle with cancer.
Rick was born in Edmonton, Alberta to the late Warren and Millie (Perkins) Ogilvie. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Ogilvie (Bloomer) and two children, Catherine (Kwadwo) Kyeremanteng and Bradley (Helena) Ogilvie (children of his former spouse: Marjorie [Wirun] Kully) and six grandsons, as well as his brother, Randy (Patricia) Ogilvie and sisters, Linda (Leon) Wiger, and Maureen. He will also be deeply missed by Susan’s family including her son Chris Bloomer and her niece Kristine Belbeck and their four children.
Rick lived his whole life in Alberta, but worked all over Canada as a dedicated steam fitter, pipe fitter, and plumber (UA Local 488). He loved the simple things in life: ice fishing, boating, fixing things up around the house, grilling “brontosaurus” steaks on the BBQ, and sitting around the fire sharing stories and time with family. Rick, Dad, we will miss your “Scottish” sense of humour and your endless supply of good advice and shortbread cookies.
A special thank you to the health care workers at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre, Cross Cancer Institute, Red Deer Regional Hospital, and Peter Lougheed Hospital who provided superb and compassionate care to Rick in his final years. Rick has requested a small private family gathering in celebration of his life. If you would like to share wishes or stories with the family, please send them to (firstname.lastname@example.org).
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Cross Cancer Institute.
