With the heaviest of hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Ralph Gramlich, on Monday, November 3, 2025. At age 91, Richard returned to the Lord’s loving arms and has been reunited with his wife, Marjorie, who passed suddenly in 2017.
Born on March 27, 1934, in Bodo, AB, Richard was the oldest of twelve children born to Ralph and Mary Gramlich. On March 1, 1965, Richard married Marjorie Fillinger and together they had four children: Robert (“Bob”), Shelly, Colin, and Tammy.
Richard was a Journeyman Carpenter and builder, having attended NAIT. Richard built his family’s home just outside of Bashaw and was involved in many local projects including building the Bashaw hockey arena and restoring the Majestic Theatre. Over the years, Richard constructed many pieces of furniture that are cherished keepsakes today.
Richard had numerous interests and talents including building machines (and a boat!), and making knives, mukluks, leather goods, knitting, quilting and the list goes on. He loved going on yearly hunting trips and playing the guitar, banjo, piano, and accordion. Richard was always ready with a joke, and to lend a hand or a listening ear.
Left to mourn Richard’s passing are his children: Bob (Ginger), Shelly (Jim), Colin (Amy), and Tammy (Jay); his grandchildren: Lauren (Kyle), Brian (Leslie), Braeden, Madison, Christopher, Larissa, Julia, Summer, Kruze, and Jett; and his great grandchildren: Kingston, Kayden, Aspyn, and Julian. Also integral to the family are Christie and Cole Ray. Richard was part of a large and loving extended family, with numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins mourning his loss.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, his wife Marjorie, and siblings, Stanley, Faye, Tex, Leslie, David, and Gordon. We are deeply grateful for the outstanding care that the Bashaw Meadows staff offered to Dad and to the rest of the family. Your kindness will be long remembered.
MEMORIAL: On Friday, December 5, 2025, Richard’s funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (4919 51 Street, Bashaw). After the interment at the cemetery, a catered reception will be held at the Ag Society Hall (AB-53, Bashaw).
Donations in honor of Richard’s memory may be made to the Bashaw Meadows Residents Association in person or by mail at 5502 – 56 Avenue, Bashaw, AB T0B 0H0. Donations can also be made through the Wombold Funeral Homes.
