On January 23, 2026, at 4:36 a.m., Rene passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer.
Rene was born in Montreal, Quebec, to Arthur and Lucille Faille, and was raised in Windsor, Ontario. He was the beloved brother of Nikki Longridge (predeceased by her husband, Richard).
On May 5, 1979, Rene married the love of his life, Ruby, in Thompson, Manitoba. Through this marriage, he became a devoted father to her five children—Jerome, JoAnne, John, Janice, and Jackie—and a proud Pépère to JoAnne’s daughter, Jenn. In July of that same year, they made the journey from Thompson to Swan Hills, beginning a life together filled with family, faith, and shared adventures.
Over the years, Rene and Ruby celebrated many milestones, including the marriages of three of their children: John to Re (predeceased), Janice to Dale, and Jackie to Darcy. They were also blessed with the arrival of additional grandchildren, Joshua and Elias, and he later officiated Joshua’s marriage to Randi. Rene took great joy in his four great-grandchildren: Nathan and Kali, and Aria and Alyson.
Rene and Ruby lived in several Alberta communities, where Rene was deeply involved in his faith and church life. It was due to his health complications that allowed this faithful servant to be returned to God.
Rene is also survived by Myrna.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church (4218 56 Avenue, Wetaskiwin, Alberta).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wetaskiwin Health Foundation-Palliative Care campaign (6910 47 Street, Wetaskiwin, AB T9A 3N3), or the Wetaskiwin Seniors Activity Centre (5216 54 Street, Wetaskiwin, AB T9A 2X1).
