Obituary

Philip Mathew Blair “Phil” Miquelon
October 27, 1928 – Olds, Alberta
September 10, 2023 – Wetaskiwin, Alberta

Phil passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the age of 94, after living a long and full life. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice “Ally” Miquelon, and by his son-in-law, Randy Adrian.

Phil was born on October 27, 1928 in Olds, Alberta to Marie Phillips and Philip Miquelon. Phil lived his childhood and completed high school in Olds. Following graduation, he worked in a number of fields; first as owner/operator of Milo Transport, next as a telegraph operator for Canadian Pacific Railway, where he was stationed at many towns and stops throughout Alberta and then in seismic surveying. It was at this time that Phil met Ally and they were married in November of 1956 and went on to have over 40 happy years together.

Following their marriage, Phil and Ally lived in Calgary and began a family. They had three children, Dawn (David) Williams, Kelly (Jacqueline) Miquelon and Dixie Miquelon (Randy Adrian). The family enjoyed many happy times together at their vacation properties, in Windermere, BC and Bergen, AB.

After working for some years at Metropolitan Calgary Foundation, Phil would go on to build his own rug and upholstery cleaning company, Alberta Rug.  He sold the company in 1980 with the intent of retiring when he and Ally moved to Kelowna, BC. However, being an active person who liked to keep busy  he started another cleaning business on a part-time basis in Kelowna. While in Kelowna they enjoyed many activities including golf, a poker club, and dancing to Big Band music with a wide circle of friends.

In 1987, Phil and Ally moved back to Calgary to enable them to spend more time with family.  Phil spent his retirement years golfing, spending time at the cottage and enjoying his children, grandchildren and, eventually great-grandchildren.

Phil was blessed with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Victoria (Michael) Hutchinson, (great-grandchildren; Kaden, Ava, Judah and William), Richard Williams (Shannon Holmes), Gavin Williams (Claire Woodward), (great-grandchildren, Xander and Rylen), Tyler Miquelon, Luke Miquelon and Joshua Miquelon.

The family wishes to recognize and thank Dr. Frans Van Der Westhuizen as well as the management, staff and caregivers at Sagebrush Seniors Home for all their support and care over the years.

Family and friends are invited to join the family as we pay tribute to Phil for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Meadowlark Park Community Hall in Calgary.
