Patricia Curtis Obituary

Patricia Carol (Jarvis) Curtis, 77, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, following a long and courageous bout with cancer.

Pat is survived by her husband of 37 years, Jim Curtis of Millet; by her brothers, Ken (Margaret) Rothenburger of Regina, and Gordon Rothenburger of Wetaskiwin; by her sisters, Beverly Romund and Valerie  Krehmer, both of Abbotsford, and Shannon (Brian) Tressell, of Langley; by her step-children, James Curtis and Coralie Curtis, both of Millet, and Cherie (Chad) Reglin of Spruce Grove; by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren; by her loyal companions Austin, Tyson and Daisy (Brittany dogs); and by many friends.

Pat was born on August 16, 1946 in Edmonton, and lived most of her life in Alberta.  She was predeceased by her parents, Eleanor and Emile Rothenburger and by her previous companion dogs Toby, Buster, Willow, Birdie, Hannah, Dusty Rose, Tyler, Albert, and Maggie.

During her life, Pat worked in numerous accounting positions for several companies. Most notable were the years she spent as Administrator of the Horizons Centre in Wetaskiwin, which provides employment training programs for adults with developmental disabilities. She was able to secure a large majority of the start-up funding to build the training centre, which is still in operation today. She also fondly reminisced about the time she spent working as the accountant at the Leduc Composite High School. Later, she managed and co-owned Curtis Heating Ltd. for 30 years until retirement in 2019.

Pat held an executive position on the boards of the Conservative Party of Alberta working with MLA Don Sparrow, and also with the Conservative Party of Canada, working with Stan Schellenberger. She was the Recording Secretary for council of Grace Lutheran Church in Wetaskiwin, where she was also a member of the Worship and Music Committee, choosing hymns for services.

Pat and Jim founded the Red Diamond Brittanys kennel in 2001. They bred, raised, trained and boarded many Brittanys over the years. Pat loved her Brittany puppies - all 82 of them! Willow was the #1 Brittany show dog in Canada in 2005, and was also a show champion in the USA. Birdie was a show champion, Tyler and Albert were both show and field champions, and Austin was a field champion.

Pat enjoyed driving her first car, a pink 1958 Olds convertible and her red 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier convertible. She loved making scrapbooks for her photos and newspaper clippings. She was a devoted Elvis fan since childhood and amassed a substantial collection of Elvis memorabilia. She was also a voracious reader of history, biographies, and political books.

“Patti”, as we often called her, will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
