Norma "Billie" Taylor Obituary

Norma "Billie" Taylor, 85, of Ponoka, Alberta, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2023.

She was predeceased by her parents Norman and Betsy Davie, husband Vern Taylor, her sister Betty Lou and her best friend, Marlene Livingston. Billie leaves behind her children, Teresa (Don) Kern, Casey Taylor and Gjoa (John Bilodeau) Taylor.

As a young Gram at 42, she played a big part in her grandchildren’s lives from early on; Labrie (Allen) Vold-Kruger, Nansen (Jen) Vold, and Gjenna (Dave) Saretsky. She has left a legacy of six fabulous great-grandchildren; Taylor, Reid, Jayden, Cheyanna, Jack and Emma.

Billie began her journey in June of 1937 in Hughenden, Alberta. She grew up in a house full of siblings, Nancy (Cliff) Thengs, Ted (Diane) Davie, Charlotte (Jack) Roworth, Bob (Diane) Davie, Danny (Colene) Davie, Betty Lou (Ken) Frolond, David (Holly) Davie. She loved the Davie clan and her Aunt Pat and special Nieces, Gina and Jacqueline.

She married Vern in 1954 and they lived on a farm in Hughenden, Alberta, before moving to the big City of Edmonton, with a stint in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, before settling down on their cattle ranch west of Ponoka in 1972.

An accomplished self-taught decorator with an artistic eye for design and the fortitude to carry out the job from start to finish. Her talent and enthusiasm touched the lives of many. Billie was an independent woman known to be tough, but fair. She was as comfortable on 1st base on the ball diamond, as she was on the curling rink, on horseback or on the dance floor.

She will miss her standing Friday night date with her good friends at the Ponoka Legion.

A kind soul, always looking out to help those in need. She volunteered at the local church, brought home used clothing and returned them a week later looking brand new. She gave back to the community she loved, and volunteered at the mobile mammogram clinic, flu clinics as well as the Ponoka Stampede Association for many years.

In lieu of flowers, please do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone in need - Billie would like that.

Thank you for the amazing care from the Northcott staff and all they do for our seniors.

Friends and family are invited to say a final goodbye at Billie's Celebration of Life to be held at the Ponoka Golf Club, 3519 46 Street, Ponoka, Alberta at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 29, 2023.
