It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Murva Maxine Waters of Edmonton, Alberta. Murva passed away peacefully while surrounded by loved ones on November 8th, 2023 at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre. Murva was 92 years of age.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Jack (Connie) Waters and their children Scott Waters, Anne (Stu) Almy, and Brian (Ange) Waters; her son Rick (Dorothy) Waters and their daughters Trisha (Mark) Enman and Stacey (JC) Lane; her son Doug (Wendy) Waters and their daughters Tiffany Waters and Bonnie (Cory) Hnatiuk; and her daughter Bonnie (Ron) MacMillan and their children Randy (Jolene) MacMillan, Doug (Stephanie) MacMillan, and Courtney (Kyle) Kinley. Murva is also survived by 24 great grandchildren.
Murva was born on April 12,1931 on a farm just outside of Wolseley, Saskatchewan. She was the youngest of three girls and enjoyed all that a farm life had to offer. She was her dad’s little helping hand and was tougher for it. On the farm, she gained a work ethic that would later provide her with a lifetime of opportunities in the workforce. Murva left Wolseley to attend Balfour Tech in Regina where she received her secretarial skills. She worked for the tax department, hail insurance, and as a court clerk before she found her favorite occupation selling real estate. While in Regina, she met the love of her life, John William Waters. They later married on October 29th, 1949 and would soon welcome their children Jack, Rick, Doug and Bonnie. In 1969 the family moved to Edmonton, Alberta where Murva worked to create the welcoming family home that we all loved and cherished.
Murva was a devoted wife, mom, and grandma. She was a great cook, a wonderful seamstress, a pianist, and the best host. Her sense of humor and spirit were unmatched. She had a way of making everyone feel like they were special. She loved to dance, sing, camp, garden and create imaginary play for her grandchildren. You never went hungry and no one cooked quite like our mom & grandma. She traveled around the countryside for her family, always helping out wherever she could and ensured that she never missed an important game, recital, or celebration. She would be sure to let her presence known and would cheer loud and proud. Murva lived her life like she drove her car; always in high gear and in full control of the road. She was full of wit and you could not help but smile or have a laugh when she was in the room.
In 2017, Murva made the move from Edmonton to Ponoka and spent the past 6 years making friends at Rimoka Lodge. She enjoyed visiting, building puzzles, and her favorite spot was the courtyard. Here she enjoyed laughing and sharing stories in the sunshine alongside staff, friends, and family.
Her family would like to thank the staff and friends of Rimoka for the amazing memories and for making her feel at home. A sincere thank you to the staff at Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre for the visits and support over these last two months. A special thank you to Dr. Tarina du Toit. We appreciate the commitment and care you provided our mother, grandmother and GG.
You are invited to join the family at Robertson-Wesley United Church in Edmonton, AB (10209-123 Street) at 1:00 p.m. on November 24, 2023. There will be a reception in the hall afterwards. Interment will be at Little Mountain Municipal Cemetery (16024-54 Street) at 3:30 p.m. The funeral will be live-stream broadcast on the Robertson-Wesley United Church website.
