Mona was born in Wetaskiwin February 7th, 1949 to Anne and Rudy Keifert. She lived in Wetaskiwin and went to C.B. McMurdo School, Queen Elizabeth and Wetaskiwin Composite High School to graduate in 1967.
Mona then started working at the Driard Hotel as a receptionist using the old cordboard to connect calls to the rooms. Her boss at this time was Bob McDonald. Then in March 1968, she started at Wetaskiwin AGT. Alberta Government Telephones. Working there until it closed and the staff went to Camrose. AGT had become Telus. The company joined with BCTel later on. Mona worked for the company for 35 years. Retiring then after 35 years of service with the company.
Then in 2005, she gave her daughter Shauna some funding to purchase the farm her and Mona’s two grandsons now live on in the Winfield area. Mona then moved out to Winfield to help Shauna with the boys while she was working for Crossroads Family Services.
Grandma Mona helped make sure Joshua got on the bus for school and kept Kevin busy until he could go on the bus with his big brother. She helped Shauna by doing the laundry and helping keep her house up while she was on the road working. Mona loved being out in the country during the spring and summer. The fall colours being very beautiful. Winter not so much. As the years went on, she found it harder and harder to shovel the snow and try to help with what she could around the farm. Of course there were chickens, so that meant collecting and selling eggs. Then along came pigs, ducks, geese, sheep and calves. This giving the grandsons some chores to do. As they got bigger and older they were a big help to mom on the farm.
