Maurice Douglas Olson

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Maurice Olson after a three year battle with Diabetes & End Stage Kidney disease. 

Maurice was born and raised in the Rimbey area. He was the oldest of 14 siblings. Maurice apprenticed with his father to become a licensed mechanic. A trade that would serve him well throughout his life, complementing his other endeavours from water well drilling, oil field maintenance, and pilot truck driver. 

Maurice met and married his wife Linda (Brosius) while completing his apprenticeship in Wetaskiwin. During their 57 year marriage, they lived in Grande Prairie, Moose Jaw, Melville, Calgary, Rocky Mountain House and lastly, Wetaskiwin. Through all these moves, making friendships that have endured the years. 

Maurice’s greatest joy was becoming a father to his daughters Holly (Bill Boorse) and Mindy (Shawn Walters); grandfather to Ben, Lily, Nash, and Nara. Maurice is also survived by his many brothers and sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

The family would like to thank the staff of the Wetaskiwin Dialysis Unit for their continued care. 

As per Maurice’s wishes, a private family service will take place at a later date. In memory of Maurice, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada - Northern Alberta & The Territories.
