On March 17, 2025, Marjorie’s travels and card games came to a peaceful end.
Marjorie was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan on March 8, 1934, and moved to the Wetaskiwin area with her family at age 13. She met and married Keith McNary in 1952, and raised eight children and worked beside Keith until his passing in 1979. She continued raising her children, and enjoyed many travels with them over the years. Navigating through Europe, Mexico, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, the Maritimes, Vancouver Island, a houseboat holiday on the Shuswap Lakes, and riding the rapids down the Red Deer River were highlights, but a simple road trip any day of the week was equally special to her.
Working at the post office, as a receptionist for a chiropractor, laundromat attendant, front desk clerk at a local hotel, and seasonal help for Montgomery’s Mink Ranch filled her time until her official retirement. Her free time was occupied with knitting for charities, such as Ronald McDonald House, Mustard Seed and the Salvation Army, not to mention the blankets, hats, mitts, sweaters and scarves for so many children, grandchildren and friends. Card clubs, crib tournaments, and volunteering for Bingos filled many evenings. Camping, campfires and more card games were a top choice for any weekend the weather allowed.
She leaves behind five daughters, three sons, and 17 grandchildren: Darol (Deb) and children Ryan, Keith and Cassandra; Colleen McNary and children Jillian, Melissa and Lindsey; Karen (Wayne) Triffo and children Cameron, Corey and Stephanie; Charlene (Alan) Greenslade and children Shauna, Scott and Megan; Ward (Coreen) and children Maddison and Matthew; Shelly (Ardell) Forth and children Michael and Jeffrey; Shirley (Dwayne) Stewart and daughter Carrie; and her son Trenton; two sisters, Sharon Schnell and Wendy Deckert (Ron Schenker); 28 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Keith Orren McNary (1979); infant brother, Ronald (1939); grandson, Timothy (1985); father, Arthur Deckert (1997); mother, Agnes Deckert (2001); brother-in-law, Ken Schnell (2002); sister-in-law, Ardith Deckert (2015); brother, Roger Deckert (2022); sister-in-law, Ruth Clark (Ontario).
A private family interment will be followed by a Celebration of Life at the Wetaskiwin Moose Hall (4915-49 Street, Wetaskiwin) at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025.
