It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Lillian Newton on December 23rd, 2022, at the age of 85 years. She was born at home on the farm on April 2nd, 1937.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughter R. Marie (Art van der Hoek); son William “Bill” Newton (Shelley Pero); grandchildren Tammy (Jordan), Alan (Chelsea), Cassandra, Kindra (Steve), and Kris (Cheryllynn); Angie; Laura; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family; sisters Yvonne, Shirley, Marilyn, and Dorothy; brother Gordon; sisters-in-law Lois and Nadine; brothers-in-law Bob and Cecile; Raymond's siblings and families; and life long friend Jean Sluchinsky.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband Raymond Newton; sister Gwen; brothers Alfred and George; her parents Violet and Morris; grandson Dewaine Labuik; son Robert; daughter-in-law Wanda; and dear friend Henry Unger.
On February 18th, 1956, Margaret married the love of her life. Mom loved to be busy in the kitchen cooking many meals and sweets for whoever stopped by; the house was always buzzing with the company. She enjoyed entertaining, bingo, camping, puzzles, and canning. There was always food in one container or another, no one ever went hungry. A visit to the house was always mouth-watering because her oven and stove never stopped. She was always a practical joker and pranking her back was always fun and challenging. We will cherish our memories of Mom forever.
A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 16th, 2023, at Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow at the Wetaskiwin Seniors Centre.
If friends and family so desire, memorial contributions are greatly appreciated and gratefully accepted to the Cross Cancer Institute (11560 University Ave, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2)
