Louis Richard Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden, but peaceful passing of Louis Richard, at the age of 80 years, at the Golden Leisure Lodge on April 27, 2021.

Lou is survived by his wife Brenda (neé Brown) of 60 years; his daughters Marlene and Denise; his granddaughters Jessica and Alorah; grandson Kenton; his great-granddaughters Savannah, Wyllow, Jaidyn, Sadayo, and Carma-Lee; great-grandsons Nicholas, Rylie, and Kenton Jr.; his brothers Reg (Florence) and Ron (Cindy); his sisters Patsy, Paulette, Phyllis (Angie) and Della; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by his father Pascal and his mother Mary-Louise; his son Leonard; brothers Claude and Guy; and his mother-in-law Carrie Brown.

Lou was best known for his calm nature, kindness, and his acceptance of people, no matter what.  He married Brenda on February 11, 1961 and they had three children.  He worked in the steel industry in Hamilton, Ontario until he moved to Alberta in April 1977.  At the age of 55, he obtained his G.E.D. and Personal Care Certification.  He enjoyed his new career and showed compassion and care for his clients.  His calm demeanor and patience endeared him to his clients and co-workers.  He retired at the age of 65.

He and Brenda moved into the Golden Leisure Lodge in 2017, where he enjoyed the last years in comfort.  He loved every aspect of living at the lodge and was a favourite among staff who affectionately called him Water-Lou.  We would like to thank the management and staff for their care and kindness during this difficult time.  We would also like to thank Ponoka Funeral Home for their kindness, compassion, and care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lou’s name to the Endowment Fund (Rimoka Housing) 403-783-3940.  This fund is for the resident’s of the Lodge for entertainment and/or equipment needed for resident comfort.  Ask for Tracy for details if you would like to make a donation.
