Larry Schaber Obituary

On January 23, 2024 Larry passed away at the age of 78 and is now safely in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Husband to Sharon of 57 years, father to Pamela Koenig (Alan) and Barb Longmore (Billy); grandfather to Victoria Haapala (Carl), Vanessa Merkosky (Kyle) and Kelsey McLaren (TJ), Clay Ullery (Mady) and Cooper Jones; great-grandfather to Walker, Makayla and Lincoln Haapala, Kayze, Kix, Kolly and Klu McLaren.

Predeceased by his parents Emmanuel and Elsie Schaber and siblings Fred, Don, and Brenda. Survived by his siblings Ken, Dolores, twin brother Garry, Harland (Nettie) and Harvey (Judy); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Larry started married life in 1966 in Lacombe ending here in Red Deer with multiple moves in between.  Larry was well versed in many occupations; Road Construction, Professional Truck Driver, Business Owner and cattleman. He loved rodeo and thought it was a great sport for kids to be involved in and was involved in setting up the Battle River High School Rodeo Association.  Larry also believed that it was important to be involved in his community and served as board member for the Ponoka Credit Union and as church youth leader. Larry’s faith was integral to his daily life and believed that being active in the church was part of his mission.

Travel was important and many wonderful memories were made across Canada and around the world, but the drive to Mexico in 2016 was his favorite.

Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and loved by all of us.  We take great comfort in knowing that we will see him again in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:  FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH RED DEER 4310 – 39 Street, Red Deer, Alberta T4N 0Z3.
