Kenneth Joseph Fredrickson was born in Wetaskiwin on August 22, 1940 and passed away on April 7, 2025 at the age of 84. He was the eldest son of Julius and Agnes Fredrickson and had three siblings Mel, Bob and Betty along with two sons, Kevin and Keith.
Ken joined air cadets when he was 13 with the goal of becoming a pilot and earning his pilots license by the age of 18. Continuing his pursuit, he joined the Air Force at 21 where he only stayed for one year as he was unable to realize his dream of becoming an Air Force pilot. He then left to follow his passion for woodworking. He was gifted tradesmen and while earning his red seal, achieved the highest grades ever recorded at NAIT for carpentry. He worked as a carpenter for years and then for Brekkes’ Glass until his retirement.
He was meticulous with everything he did and could do anything in construction that he set his mind to. He bought the house that he lived in, lifted it and dug the basement by hand with his father. He then placed it on its foundation and renovated it, top to bottom. He loved working with his hands. He designed and built his own camper and enjoyed crafting things, making mirrored spoon racks and different board games for family and friends. He had a love of nature and enjoyed camping and hiking. He was always very fit, starting his day with at least 40 push-ups and walking a couple of miles a day. He was a great dancer and travelled to every event that he could with his partner, Gladys.
He had a great sense of humour, he loved to laugh, tell jokes and was a huge movie buff. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
Ken was predeceased by his parents, siblings and youngest son, Keith. He is survived by his partner, Gladys Anderson; and his son, Kevin (Jennifer); their children, Artie and Kennedy; Keith’s children, Ethan and Alicia (Kevin); and their children, Oxana, Aurora and Kyrie.
A private family graveside took place on Friday, April 18th at Wetaskiwin Memorial Cemetery.
