With great sadness, the family of Kathryn Ann Matejka (née Fry) announces her passing on December 2nd, 2025, at the age of 61.
Kathy was born April 20th, 1964, in Calgary, AB, and grew up in Strathmore and Airdrie. She graduated from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), before starting a job at Canadian Bank Note Company. Kathy met her husband and best friend of 36 years, Mark Matejka, in 1988, and shortly after moved to Mark’s family farm in Ponoka, AB. They were married on August 26th, 1989.
Throughout the years, she lived life with an open heart, continuously supporting her family, their farm, community, and the cattle industry. Kathy was active in many groups, serving the local Kinette Club, Figure Skating Club, 4-H, KidSport, and most recently Ponoka Golf Course.
Kathy will be always loved, never forgotten and forever missed by her husband Mark Matejka. She was and will always be, incredibly proud of her three children, daughter Brittney (Kolton and Mia – granddaughter), daughter Carling (Stijn) and son Tyson (Teagan). She will be forever held in the heart of her mother, Bev Fry.
She was predeceased by her father and mother in-law Bill and Betty Matejka, her father Gary Fry, and brother Jim Fry.
Kathy will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering loyalty to those she loved, and the legacy of family and community she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the Ponoka Stampede Grounds (Stagecoach).
Memorial donations may be made in her honour to the Canadian Cancer Society.
