With our deepest sadness, the family of Joseph Garrould Justus announce his passing on November 9, 2018. His wife, Héléne, of 56 years, and his brother. Ron, were at his side. Joe leaves to mourn, three children, Bill (Carmen), Kris, and Steve (Tara); mother, Grace; along with grandchildren and great grandchildren; and extended family across Canada and the U.S. He was 81.
Joe grew up in rural Saskatchewan and went to college in Nebraska. His long and diverse career was spent in service of others, from his early years as a Regina City Police Officer, to his later years in financial planning. He found joy in helping others, and outside of work, found ways to give back through volunteer efforts and fundraising campaigns.
He was most content outdoors and had an ardour for challenges: perfecting hill climbs on the motorcycle of his youth, sailing with his family on the boat that he built from scratch, piloting small aircraft across the blue skies of the prairies, or cycling through miles of mountains in his later years. He had the kindliest heart and brilliant soul. Our loss is immense.
“Spread your wings as you go
When God took you back he said Hallelujah
You’re home”
A Funeral Mass will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on November 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Alberta Lung Association or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
