1935 - 2026

On February 7, 2026, Jon Andrew Gullekson passed away peacefully in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, at the age of 90. He was born on September 19, 1935, to Harold and Ida Gullekson and spent his life deeply rooted in the community he called home.

Jon will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Sharon; their children, Pam (Victor) and David (Sheron); and his cherished grandchildren: Brittany (Matt), Jasmin (Robin), Ben (Megan), Breanna, Rob, Lisa (Dominic), and Teisha. He was a proud great-grandfather to Samantha, Evan, Dominic, Ethan, Avery, Claire, Griffin, Eleanor, Remi, Indy, and Rowyn. Jon also leaves behind any long-time friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.

Jon grew up on the family farm alongside his brother Paul, accompanied by their two dogs, Bloop and Bleep. He attended Sparling School and famously rode his pedal bike 15 kilometres along dirt roads to Wetaskiwin to attend woodworking classes. Jon later studied at Camrose Lutheran College and Calgary Tech, earning a Canadian General Electric scholarship that took him to Ontario. He went on to work with AGT, where he remained until his retirement in 1991. Jon and Sharon were married in 1958 and were blessed with five children. Alongside his full-time career, Jon pursued his lifelong passion for farming, a calling that brought him great satisfaction and pride.

Jon was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Ida; his brother, Paul; and three of his children: Jon Kenneth, Susanne, and James (Sherry).

Jon’s family was his joy, and his passion was food - especially pie. He was a gifted problem-solver, creative in construction and farm maintenance, and always willing to lend a hand. His warm sense of humour and outgoing nature shone wherever he went, whether at the local coffee shop, the shores of Shuswap or a Mexican courtyard.

Jon will be deeply missed, but his family finds comfort in knowing he is now free from pain and at peace.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Grace Lutheran Church (4218 56 Ave, Wetaskiwin), with Rev. Randy Meissner officiating.
