John "Jack" Culford Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John Joseph Culford aka “Jack” on January 9, 2023.

Jack was born in Lloydminister, Saskatchewan to John and Emma Culford on October 15, 1945.

Jack grew up in Marwayne, Alberta where he attended school till the age of 16. He left home and moved in with his sister Maureen to attend grade 12. At the age of 17, Jack went and got his drivers license and that moment his journey on the open hiway began. Jack worked for many trucking companies from being a log hauler for Vanderwell to being a vtrain hauler. Dad worked for many outfits and loved his time on the road. The last twenty some years he worked for L&R fuel distributors in Red Deer, Alberta as a driver to becoming a dispatcher before retiring in 2012. Jacks passion was driving. Anyone who’s come across jacks path has heard endless stories of his career as a driver. Even after retiring, dad couldn’t stop and sit still as he continued doing work such as hauling travel trailers, vehicles and many other items for local dealerships.  Dad met the love of his life who he was married to for 52 years Mabel, and continued to love her unconditionally even after she passed away in 2017. They shared two children Merle and Keri who they also loved genuinely. Many times and endless hours you could find Jack at the hockey rink watching his grandchildren playing hockey. Grandpa Jack was always in attendance no matter where the game might be or even if the roads were horrible, he still managed to make it. Always being the kids number one fan.

Jack leaves to mourn his loving children: son Merle and daughter Keri (Gabriel); his grandchildren Matthew (Meredith), Jona, Letitia (Jay), Maria, Kyle, Shayla-Rae, and his baby chops Reagan (Wayne); great grandchildren Joshua and Zariah; his sisters Maureen, Jeannie, and Jackie; as well as many brother & sister in laws, nieces & nephews, and great nieces & nephews.

Jack was predeceased by his loving wife Mabel, his parents John And Emma Culford, his sister Leah and his precious grandson Jarrid.

Jack will be greatly missed by many, but never will be forgotten.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Stagecoach Saloon (located on the Ponoka Stampede Grounds).
