On Tuesday morning, at 88 years-old our father John H. Wagner passed away peacefully at Northcott Care Center in Ponoka, Alberta where he lived for just over a year.
Originally from Enfield, Nova Scotia he lived in Vegreville, Alberta for many years. He was predeceased in 2021 by his loving wife of 14 years, Jocelan Wagner, as well as both his parents Basil and Beatrice Wagner of Enfield, brothers Basil and David, and his sister Betty (Elizabeth).
He is survived by his six children: Katherine Wagner, Edmonton, AB; Greg Wagner (Helena), Ponoka, AB; Shelley Murphy (Peter), Pembroke, ON; Stephen Wagner, Edmonton, AB; Corina Wagner, Halifax, NS; and Michael Wagner, Coldstream, BC. He also leaves behind grandchildren Meghan, Patrick, Alissa, Jedidiah, Samantha, Sinéad, and Rosie; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Dad loved music, woodworking, and fishing in lakes and streams from Nova Scotia to Alberta. He used to love to dance, was very opinionated and he loved a good laugh. Later in life he enjoyed his Field and Stream magazines. He was a well respected mechanic his whole life and could fix (and often take apart) anything.
We would like to thank the team at Northcott Care Centre for their compassion and patience as well as the faith community in the Ponoka area who worshipped with him until his final days.
As were Dad’s wishes, he will be cremated and at a later date, his ashes will be brought to Nova Scotia along with his wife Jocelan’s, to be laid to rest with his parents in Dutch Settlement, NS. Donations made to any mental health or dementia organizations, or a charity of choice in his name are greatly appreciated.
