HERMUS, Joanne
1960-2026
It is with profound sorrow that we mourn the passing of our dear sister Joanne (Jo/Johannna) Hermus on February 27, 2026 at Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton.
Jo was born on March 8, 1960, alongside her twin sister Jeanette. She was the sixth of seven children born to Jim and Bertha Hermus in Melfort, Saskatchewan.
The Hermus siblings were raised on a mixed farm with many chores and a lot of teamwork. Jo excelled at school, enjoying art, drama, creative writing and making memories with her many friends.
In the late 1980's, Jo was a partner in the establishment of the Shell gas station and Dairy Queen in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. In January of 1990, Jo gave birth to her beloved son Johnathan. They were a great support to each other. After Johnathan’s passing in February of 2022, Jo’s health began to decline.
She is now at peace in the arms of her son. Jo is predeceased by her parents Jim and Bertha Hermus and son Johnathan Elligott.
Left to mourn are her siblings, Ted Hermus and family, Bernie (Joan) Hermus and family, Mary (Curt) and family, Peggy (Barry) Gordon and family, Jeanette (Ron) and family, Dennis( Liezel)
and family, the Elligott family and some close friends. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Donations in memory of Jo may be made to the S.P.C.A.
