Gathering to Celebrate Jennifer's Life - Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. at By the Lake Park in Wetaskiwin
Born to Donald and Velma Ferns in Winnipeg in 1948, Jennifer moved to Calgary in 1958 with her family, and graduated from Western Canada High School. She married Phil Nash in 1968 and lived in Saskatoon, Lethbridge, Lac La Biche, and Vegreville, moving to Wetaskiwin in 1980. She raised their two daughters, Amy and Elizabeth, and worked in retail and insurance businesses, as well as being the Wetaskiwin and District Museum curator for a number of years. Jennifer derived great enjoyment from her grandchildren, Zoey and Jesse. Jennifer was a curler, a potter, a downhill and Nordic skier, canoeist, avid gardener, camper, hiker, lifelong bridge player, traveller, gourmet cook, long- time book club member, yoga student; and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, the Library Board, and the Craft Center. She taught kid’s pottery for years.
Jennifer had a fit and active lifestyle. She was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2015, went through chemotherapy, and was free of the disease. She resumed her normal life, but fell ill in January of 2018 as the Lymphoma returned. Jennifer knew the end of her life was approaching, but accepted this, saying simply “I had a good life”. She died peacefully on February 23, 2018. Jennifer will be mourned by her husband, Phil; her children, Amy and Elizabeth; grandchildren, Zoey and Jesse; her father; her sisters; her nieces and nephews; and by all her good friends, old and new. Jennifer did not want a funeral, and was cremated. There will be a celebration of her life for family and friends in May.
Jennifer’s family especially want to thank the Wetaskiwin and Cross Cancer Hospitals, their staff, her doctors, and all those dear friends who contributed to her care and comfort during her last days.
