Jean Elizabeth Rose was born on April 2, 1927, in Irricana, Alberta to Raymond Goodwin and Dr. Margaret Wilson.
Jean was the eldest of five children. When Jean was a toddler, the family moved to a farm west of Ponoka in the Ferrybank area. Jean went to the University of Alberta upon completion of high school to earn an Education degree. Following University, she taught at Asker School east of Ponoka until she married Doug Rose on June 28, 1949. At this time life and raising 6 kids, Jean also found time to engage in the Grand Meadow Ladies County fair and the Forest Home Cemetery Association. Her days were also filled with gardening, quilting, petit point, cross stitching, and crocheting. She also became the local cake decorator for many wedding cakes and birthday cakes for her family and friends. Jean stayed on the farm following Doug’s passing in 2009 until 2012 when she moved to town. In 2020, Jean moved to Rimoka, where she lived until 2024 when she made her final move to Sagebrush in Wetaskiwin.
Jean is survived by her brothers Thomas and John Goodwin; and sister-in-law Henrietta Humphries. She will also be remembered by her five children: Connie, Dwayne, Stephen, Margaret, and Dallas; daughter in-law Janet Rose; 11 “rosebuds”; and 17 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews in Alberta and Ontario. Jean was predeceased by her husband Doug; sister Eleanor; brother Richard; her son Bruce; and son in-law Ole Flaade.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 11, 2026, at Ponoka Funeral Home.
Memorial Donations in Jean's name are gratefully accepted to Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society or Ferrybank Cemetery.
