Janny Lai Fun Smith

Janny Lai Fun Smith was born July 20th, 1960 in Hong Kong, China. She immigrated to Canada in 1979. She met Sefton in Grande Prairie and the two wed in 1985. They moved to Ponoka in 1989 to raise their four children. Janny worked at the Ponoka Aquaplex for 9 years and at the Centennial Centre for 24 years before retiring in 2023, where shortly after she was diagnosed with advanced colorectal cancer.

Janny passed away at the Ponoka General Hospital on February 18, 2026 surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband Sefton; her children Seffrona, Amy, Lorrie and Michael, Antony and Janina; and her two granddaughters Odeya and Kaszey.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
