It is with deep sadness that the family of Jannette Stang announces her passing on February 11, 2026, at the age of 84 years, following a brief illness at Red Deer Regional Hospital.
The third oldest of eight children, Jannette was born on January 1, 1942, in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, to Joseph and Ida Prediger. She grew up in the Halfway Grove area west of Ponoka. Jannette married Albert Stang on July 14, 1962, and they raised their family of four in and around Ponoka, including Sylvan Heights and Mecca Glen in the County of Ponoka. Jannette worked as a Nursing Assistant at Northcott Care Centre and the Alberta Hospital Centennial Centre. Upon retiring in 2007, she and Albert moved to Red Deer County to be close to their children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family and getting together with numerous extended family members and friends, which usually involved cooking, baking, card games, camping, fun and laughter. She enjoyed watching her beloved Blue Jays and Oilers, tapping her toes to polka music, and exercising her mind by working on word search or jigsaw puzzles. She liked spending hours in her yard and on her deck watching the birds and other wildlife.
Jannette was predeceased by her husband, Albert, in 2018. She will be dearly missed and remembered by her children Joe Stang, Jacquie (Cory) Daumont, Tom (Kara) Stang, and Brian (Sonya) Stang; her grandchildren Madison Stang, Ava Stang, Presley Daumont, and Hudson Stang; and by her many relatives and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Ponoka, Alberta, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are gratefully to the Arthritis Society Canada at arthritis.ca.
