On Thursday, July 24, 2025 Janet Hornby (nee Jones) passed away at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Janet was born in Ponoka, Alberta. With grandparents, many aunts and uncles and 17 cousins, she formed an enduring importance to matters of family.
On March 16, 1968, Janet married Ed Hornby, an aspiring RCAF Officer Cadet. They shared 57 amazing years of adventure, travel, 12 household moves, and loving mutual support in challenging careers.
Janet loved to entertain, and bachelor co-workers from squadron or forestry station were assured a welcoming Thanksgiving, Easter, or birthday dinner.
She loved our furry and feathered friends; pets and wildlife alike. She came to enjoy foreign travel and visiting Alaska, the Panama Canal, and several trips to Europe.
Janet is survived by her devoted husband Ed; her aunt Effie Bullis; her brother Dave Jones; her nieces Carrie Lynn Christianson and husband Jed, and Megan Halko and husband Tyler; her nephews Blair Hornby and wife Stephanie, David Jones, and Brian Jones; her sister-in-law Carrie Hornby; her brother-in-law Clifford Hornby; and three great-nieces and a great-nephew.
Those wishing to honour Janet’s memory, in keeping with her love of animals, would do so best with a small donation to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Ponoka Funeral Home on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. with the Interment Service following at the Forest Home Cemetery.
