FUNERAL SERVICE POSTPONED
Janet Wilma Heistad passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Rocky Mountain House on September 1, 1939, she spent a happy childhood there before moving to Calgary at age 17 where she worked for AGT. In 1959 she met the love of her life Rey Heistad. They married soon after and built a beautiful home together in Veteran where they raised four children.
Janet poured her heart into everything she did. Her flower gardens were breathtaking, bringing joy to everyone who saw them. She spent countless loving hours tending to her vegetable garden, raising chickens, and collecting fresh eggs each day. She cherished working at the Veteran Camp, where she created meals with such care. Every fall, she filled the kitchen with warmth while making her famous Lefsa. Even after her and Rey retired to Ponoka in 2000, she kept the tradition alive, sharing her delicious Lefsa at the Veteran Christmas Capers. She truly was the best Lefsa maker around and her Lefsa came with a generous helping of love. Janet also spent many years working at Circle Square Ranch where her kind heart touched so many lives.
One of her greatest joys was playing Chinese Checkers and marbles with her family. She was wonderfully competitive, always playing to win with the sparkle in her eye and a big smile on her face. Those game nights filled the house with laughter and created memories her family will treasure forever.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rey Heistad; her son-in-law Phil Cotter; her parents, Wilbur and Mary Seibel; her brothers, Wayne, and Lou; and her sisters Florine and Gail.
She is lovingly survived by her dear sister Myrna; and brother-in-law Don Monette; sister-in-law Peg Seibel; her children Lavonne Cotter, Lynette Heistad (Andy), Shelly Bach (Ted), and Kent Heistad (Jacky); her grandchildren Jaron (Chelsea), Steph, Savannah (Brad), Brenna (Jesse), Mitchell (Melissa), Matthew (Megan), Mackenzie (Sophie), Bella, and Liv; her great-grandchildren, Teegan, Emilia, Parker, Porter, Emmett, and Cameron; and so many nieces and nephews who adored her.
Janet’s warm smile, generous heart, and the endless love she shared through her gardens, her cooking, her games, and her family will live on in every heart she touched. She will be deeply missed, and forever remembered, with so much love.
The Funeral Service planned for April 25 has been postponed due to the weather. A new date for the service will be announced when available.
Memorial Donations in Janet's name are gratefully accepted to Veteran Full Gospel Camp or any food bank of your choice.
