James "Jim" Durand Obituary

James “Jim” Allen Durand was born to Henry Joseph Durand and Anna Olesa Durand on June 16, 1953 in Camrose,  Alberta. He was one of a family of nineteen. Jim passed away on August 4, 2020 at 67 years old.  Jim attended New Norway School. He worked with his father in his mechanic shop growing up; he also worked at a Grain Elevator at a young age. He went to school to become a Journeyman sheet metal mechanic and started his first position at Brytex.  Afterwards he moved onto working at SAIT managing the Trades staff. He continued his career for another 18 years in Wetaskiwin Alberta as a Facility Coordinator for the Alberta Government in Property Management, Infrastructure.

Jim’s passions in life were his family, travelling, and old movies. Jim loved family activities like taking his kids and grandkids to amusement parks, the mall, the zoo and out to eat. He always provided a welcoming home and open door to any family and friends that would drop in. Jim was always concerned for others and willing to lend a helping hand in whatever was needed. From putting up drapes to working on his children’s cars.  Jim was always busy. He was exceptionally smart and provided advice and a listening ear to anyone that needed him. He often happily reminisced on memories of growing up in New Norway.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Danny and Gene; sister, Louise, and brother, Robert. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Rhonda; his children Angie, Mike (Milena), Jamie (Klayton) Franklin, and Brittany (Matt) Ross;  his sisters, Irene (Bruce) Oberholtzer, Connie (Soren) Bech, Margy Dahl, Gerry (Irvin) Reddemann, Denise (Rodney) Blatz, Dianne Backs, Laurie (David) Odegard, and Marie Lewin;  sister-in-law, Karen; his brothers, Lee (Linda), Donald (Judy), Ken  (Connie), Tony (Laurie), Brian, and Kip (Mary);  his grandchildren Benjamin, Joshua, and KJ; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives.

Jim was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Due to Covid-19, a private family service will be held at a later date.

Donations in Jim's memory are gratefully accepted to the Canadian Cancer Society.
