James Marvin Walker

James Marvin Walker, son of Hemme and Connor Walker, was born in Brightview, Alberta on August 31, 1935. Jim was raised on the farm and attended Rapid Creek School there. In the 1940s, his family then moved to Chisholm, Alberta where Jim eventually worked his way to a steam ticket and began employment at the Chisholm Sawmill.  That is where he met Karla Schwarz, the love of his life, and shortly after they got married on July 2, 1955.  Jim and Karla eventually moved to Wetaskiwin where he picked up worked at the Carnation Plant. Following this, they moved to Mulhurst where Jim worked for Texaco and then eventually transferred to Cynthia.  Years later, Jim and Karla returned to Mulhurst where Jim worked for Esso. He eventually retired from the oil & gas industry there, but made a brief return to work for Sherritt-Gordon in Cuba not long after.

Jim absolutely loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and holidaying in many places such as British Columbia, Hawaii, Germany, Panama, Alaska, mainland USA, Norman Wells, and all the way East into Atlantic Canada. He truly loved family time and had a relentless sense of humour, often teasing his kids, nieces & nephews, grandkids, and eventually his great-grandkids.

After Jim developed myelofibrosis, he and Karla sold their house in Mulhurst and moved to Leduc to be closer to a hospital. Jim fought a tough battle but eventually passed away in the Leduc hospital on July 6, 2026. On that note, Jim’s family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses in Unit 21 and 22 at the Leduc Hospital for their compassion and efforts to keep him comfortable.

Jim is survived by his wife of 71 years, Karla, children Monica (Dwayne) Robins, Marvin (Bev) Walker, Fritz (Leah) Walker, and Christine (Trevor) Yachimec, 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous extended family members. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Hemme and Connor Walker, his sisters, Virginia Walker, Marion Savard, and Myrtle Marechal, and infant son Alan.

As per Jim’s wishes, a private family service will take place at a later date.
