Herman Edwin Taylor (Ed) was born on December 2, 1950 in Ponoka Alberta and passed away on January 16, 2022 in Ponoka Alberta.
Ed grew up in the Ponoka and Wetaskiwin area where he spent his youth breaking horses. He enjoyed playing sports including baseball, hockey, basketball, and curling. His passion for horses led him into rodeo, horse racing, mountain trail riding, and working cattle.
Ed was a jack of all trades and no stranger to hard work. He excelled as a welder and earned his Red Seal Journeyman Certificate. Ed took pride in the design and fabrication of the products he made. He was even more proud of mentoring those who worked for him. In addition to his full-time career, he produced cattle, horses, and pigs on the family ranch.
Ed married Wendy in 1972, raised a family of 4 children west of Usona before settling south of Wetaskiwin. He enjoyed camping trips, fishing, and of course horseback riding. Ed loved to sing around the campfire, tell jokes, with a bottle of “Pil” within reach. His dancing prowess was showcased at many a wedding and Moose functions. As the extended family grew, he cherished time with his grandkids.
Ed faced many hardships in his life, but his greatest challenge was his failing health. As a result, he relocated to Ponoka.
Ed is survived by his wife of 49 years, Wendy; daughter Robyn (Nathan) Goofers and grandchildren Logan, Lana, Chloe, and Conor; daughter Terra (Matt) Hallett and grandchildren Moria and Colby; daughter Amber (Jordan) Mantei and grandchildren Sasha, Sierra, and Wyatt; son Dustin (Megan) Taylor; his siblings Bob (Sue) Taylor and Judy (Gordon) Grinde; mother-in-law Mary (Ross) Fleischman; as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by his father, Herman Taylor, mother, Bessie Taylor, siblings, Fern Fisher, Billy Taylor, Gordon Taylor, Donna Kruse, and Norma Lefferson.
