Helen Huseby Obituary

Helen Gertrude (Kanngiesser) Huseby passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on Friday, July 11, 2025, after suffering a stroke.

Helen was born in Lacombe and grew up on the Kanngiesser family farm, the second of 4 children, and the only girl. When her father died of a heart attack, it left Helen’s mom, Ethel, to raise her young family on her own, which she did successfully. The farm is in the family to this day. Helen was 15 when she met Frank, and at age 20, on May 3rd, 1958, they were married in St. Andrew’s United Church in Lacombe. They moved to Calgary after their honeymoon trip to Oregon and California, settling into their work, until their daughter Bev was born in April 1959. Two years later they purchased their house, which Helen lived in for the rest of her life, celebrating many important milestones including Bev’s marriage to Dave, the birth of their two grandchildren, Andrea and Nicolas, Helen’s 80th birthday, Frank’s 90th birthday and their 67th wedding anniversary.

Helen and Frank worked hard and built a comfortable life for themselves, balancing hard work with fun, often spending days off riding motorbikes or snowmobiles, going fishing and camping, or visiting with family and friends. One of the best things that they did was to buy a Winnebago motorhome in 1998, after Helen retired in 1997 from 30 fulfilling years of working at Westech Industrial. There were many fun trips with their grandchildren and with their new friends in the Winnebago International Travelers club.

Helen was known for her kindness and concern for others, and it wasn’t unusual for her and Frank to support others when they saw that they could help. Helen was very proud of her grandchildren, always looking forward to being with them and always eager to answer how her grandchildren were doing when asked by friends and neighbours.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Frank Huseby; daughter Beverly Huseby and her husband David Morgan; grandchildren Andrea (Peter Lister) Morgan and Nicolas (Ashley Lethbridge) Morgan; brothers Norman (Jean) Kanngiesser and Edgar (Judy) Kanngiesser; sister-in-law Carol Adcock; numerous beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Helen was predeceased by her parents Isadore and Ethel Kanngiesser; Frank’s parents Jesse and Rhoda Muriel Huseby; her brother and his wife George (Mina) Kanngiesser; sister-in-law Marilyn Kanngiesser; Frank’s brothers and their wives - Leonard (Alice) Huseby and Norman (Florence) Huseby; Frank’s sisters and their husbands - Mabel (Jalmer) Johnson, Clara (Bud) Scobie, and Lillian (Harold) Smithinsky; Frank’s brother-in-law Chuck Adcock; nephews Scott (Sora) Kanngiesser, Richard (Martha) Cender, Phil Huseby, and Ian (Pauline) Dunn; and nieces Elaine (Rick) Wierzbicki and Judy (Mike) Morris.
