Harry Rix Obituary

On Tuesday, July 21, 2020, Harry Arthur Franz Rix, loving husband and father of five children, went home to be with the Lord at the age of 93. He loved the Lord with all of his heart and we take joy in the knowledge that we will see him again.
He was born on June 20, 1927, fourth of the five sons of Art and Ruth Rix. He took over the farm established by his father, Arthur, across the road from the 1893 homestead of grandfather, John J. Rix. While farming with Dad, Harry met his future wife Esther. She was the Bears Hill country schoolteacher, at the time, boarding at the home of cousin, Clarence and Lois Rix. They lived just across the road on the original homestead. How convenient!
He continued to farm with his son Dean over the years, and has been pleased with the recent involvement of his grandson, Graham Rix Farms now spanning five generations. The farm was celebrated by extended family in August of 2018 after being designated an Alberta Century Farm.
Harry loved his family and especially enjoyed times when they were together. He loved his church, coffee with friends, travel, camping, fishing and curling. He was known for his kind, gentle spirit and his unique ability to make everyone feel loved. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Harry was preceded in death by an infant brother; both parents; youngest son, Lee William; three brothers and their wives, (Don and Jean, Jack and Joy, Hilton and Wilma).
He is survived by his wife, Esther of 66 good years; son, Dean (Merlyn) Rix; daughters, Cheryl (Jonathon) Dyck, Cindy (Alan) MacLurg, Kathy (Stephen) Partington, 14 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of attendance, the family requests that you please call Esther with condolences over the following days and weeks to come. It will be much appreciated.
