Gilbert “Gil” Mack
1937 - 2025
Gilbert Mack, of Wetaskiwin, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, at the age of 88 years.
Gilbert was born on February 10, 1937, in Kelvington, Saskatchewan, to John and Bertha Mack. He married Connie Althouse on October 10, 1959, and together they shared 66 years of marriage, raising their family and building a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and community.
Gilbert spent much of his working life as a truck driver. He began his career in Saskatchewan, driving a gravel truck, and then went on to train with United Grain Growers, where he served as an agent for them in Ceylon, Saskatchewan, for eight years, followed by about two years in Stoughton, Saskatchewan. Due to health concerns related to grain dust, Gilbert changed paths and, in 1970, moved to Fort Nelson, British Columbia. There, he was hired by Canadian Freightways and remained with the company for 26 years, until his retirement in 1996. Gilbert was well-known and well-liked in the Fort Nelson community, particularly among the many people and customers he worked with over the years.
An avid gardener, Gilbert always found joy in tending a garden wherever life took him. Gardening remained one of his lifelong passions.
In 2001, Gilbert and Connie moved to Wetaskiwin, Alberta, where he spent his final years.
Gilbert will be lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew him.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Connie Mack; his children, Garlen Mack, Mallory (Teresa) Mack, and Dari (Tonya) Mack; grandchildren, Kennedy and Cody; his siblings, Ramona Shier, Lynol Mack, Sandra Cambell, Garry Mack, and Cyril Mack; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Gilbert was predeceased by his parents, John and Bertha Mack, and his siblings Vernice Ingrim, Wilmer Mack, Allister Mack, Sharon Unger, and Bervin Mack.
Funeral service details will be announced at a later date.
Gilbert’s family would like to thank everyone for their kindness, support, and shared memories during this time.
