Gerald Alexander Gray
October 11, 1927 - June 16, 2026
Gerald passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the age of 98 years.
Born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, on October 11, 1927, to Sam and Lora Gray of Marwayne, Alberta, Gerald was the eighth child in a family of ten. He was raised on a farm in Marwayne, Alberta, and took his schooling there.
After finishing school, he moved to BC in 1946, where he joined the New Westminster Regiment. He transferred to the Royal Canadian Service Corps in 1950 and was stationed in Camp Borden, Ontario. In 1950, he went to Korea with the 25th Brigade. At the end of service, his rank was Corporal. Out of a family of eight, seven served in the forces. Two of his siblings died at an early age from meningitis, and one was left deaf.
For many years, Gerry’s occupation was long-distance trucking and, eventually, farming and ranching. He enjoyed all sports and loved to golf and camp. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He married Darlene Shannon on June 22, 1957.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 69 years, Darlene; four children, Wendy, Cheryl, Duane, and Darren; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brother, Fergus, of Kelowna, British Columbia.
He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Lora; five brothers; three sisters; son-in-law, Brian Baswick; and grandson Timothy Baswick.
The family would like to give a special thank-you to the Good Shepherd Home and the staff at Hanson House for the wonderful care they gave Gerry over the last four years.
A Funeral Service will be held at Baker Funeral Chapel at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, June 27, 2026.
